Mykola Tomenko: 65 Anniversary of Great Victory is an Occasion to commemorate the Participants of the War, instead of Commemorating the Soviet Union and Stalin
"65 Anniversary of Great Victory is an Occasion to commemorate the Participants of the War, instead of Commemorating the Soviet Union and Stalin", Mykola Tomenko, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine declared in the course of the sitting of the Presidium of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine on the topic: "Modern Investigations of the Great Patriotic War history: Problems, Theories, Methodologies and Methods."
In the course of his speech, Mykola Tomenko stated that: "It is extremely necessary to evaluate in proper way heroism of the people protecting their families, their small Motherland, it should be done by the authority, mass media and society. One should remember their contribution top the formation of modern Ukraine."
"Instead, the authority and mass media chose another approach praise of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and Stalin in particular." He also emphasised that "this propaganda appeared to be even stronger in Ukraine then in Russian Federation."
Speaking on the appreciation of everything that was happening in Ukraine during this complicated period, Mykola Tomenko declared that it is necessary to stop the discussions regarding the fact whether for Ukraine it was the Great Patriotic War of the Second World War.
"Unfortunately for the Ukrainian people that used to have no own state in that period, there is no correct truth concerning the evaluation of these events. Today it is necessary to appreciate that all people deserve to have their own truth and we must reach a mutual understanding regarding this issue", M. Tomenko emphasised.
